Taiwan: Quarantine Day 12 (Intro by OG Troupe's Gillian Norris)

On a recent Lordcast, Team Lord dancer Joe Harrison brought up a very powerful point: for everyone in #LordOfTheDance, #FeetOfFlames Taiwan 2020 is a second chance at that "first time onstage" energy.

Every Team Lord dancer remembers their first night onstage. The rush of adrenaline. The heat. The lights. Wound up so tightly, and then finally -- free.
Every single night, each performer gives the best show of their lives. In a Michael Flatley production, nothing less than perfection is acceptable. And thus, with the pandemic having shut down all touring shows for the last nine months -- an eternity for a show like this -- there's a very unique energy at work here: Lord of the Dance is *literally* the only #IrishDance show in the world that's touring right now, and since it's a Feet of Flames stadium tour, the stakes really are through the roof; this show is carrying the flag for *all* professional #IrishDancing at the moment.

There's going to be a lot of emotion when everyone sees the stage again for the first time. There's going to be a certain magic in the air when the music begins, and Planet Ireland is brought forth once more. The anticipation is stratospheric.

Providing some words of encouragement to the troupe, our mystery OG for today is none other than the legendary Gillian Norris!

Gillian's not just the original bad girl of Lord of the Dance; she's the OG bad girl for the entire commercial Irish dancing *industry.* For a cultural dance which had been completely sterilized until Michael Flatley overlaid his art form atop it, Gillian's wild performance was nothing less than an atomic bomb. The reason why that audience at the Point was losing their minds in the 1996 video is because *no one* had ever seen anything like Lord of the Dance before, which gleefully broke all the rules and went full-throttle with an in-your-face rock concert that shouted emotions in big primary colors directly at your eyeballs -- and Gillian's performance was a massive part of that experience.

Today's video is sourced from footage provided by Sean Michael McHugh, Belle Brenton, Aine Malone, and the reigning queen of Team Lord quarantine vlogs, Lauren Clarke.

Twelve days down. Two left to go. Counting down the hours.

Feet of Flames Taiwan is almost here.
