Advance Child Tax Credit Update for Adding a child

The Advance Child Tax Credit is up to $250 or 300 per child. If you had a new born in 2020 or 2021 the IRS may not have them on record. The portal is not updated yet to accept changes to your household or income. The only other way is to use your IRS form W4 to adjust your withholdings further.

It's important to understand that changing your IRS form W4 to reduce withholdings may increase your tax liability at the end of the year. Please review your W4 now and towards the end of the year so you don't get any tax surprises.

The IRS has said the portal will get updated to allow for these changes later this year.
