SNAKE EATS A GECKO (graphic)

True life example of how a snake eats its prey.

This Golden Tree Snake (also called a Green Snake), a mildly venomous snake whose poison has little effect on humans, has been hanging around our house for several years. Although they are most active during the day, we don't see this one often, and this is the first time we observed it eating. Golden Tree Snakes eat geckos, lizards, and rodents, which are common around our home.

By chance, my wife walked outside and saw it hanging from the rafter of our carport with a gecko it had captured in its mouth. She's a farm girl and very accepting of nature. She immediately called me to come with my video camera, and this video is the result. It is the first time I've personally been able to observe a snake eating its prey. I hope you find this educational.

I also took a follow-up video of this snake crawling through our carport rafters to our Rose of Sharon bush, where it quite actively explored the branches, perhaps looking for an addition to its gecko meal.
