The Carter Sisters "A Rose Covered Grave" (For our Baby)
This Radio show is an "unedited" show from "The Carter Sisters with Mother Maybelle and Chet Atkins from 1950 for their ABC nationally syndicated KWTO Springfield Missouri radio show.It starts with June singing lead on "A Dude Cowboy" with all 3 of the sisters on the chorus, then the Famous Trio of Mother Maybelle, Helen and Anita sing a beautiful song called "I still Do" Then It contains the only recording of a most beautiful sad song that Maybelle and the Girls wrote and is sung by the "Famous Trio" again. "A Rose Covered Grave" (For our baby)This work of art should be played at The Country Music Hall of Fame" or the Smithsonian of American history. You can detect Mother Maybelle singing with sadness in her voice and the harmonies with her daughters are just gorgeous. This band was a very important part of our American music heritage. This song brings to light the high mortality rate in the turn of the 19 and 20th century when many families had to bury their young. The band does instrumental featuring "Chet Atkins" and they do a "Jam Session" featuring Helen on accordion, Anita on bass fiddle and Chet on electric guitar. This 15 minute show showcases 5 of the most talented entertainers to ever grace our country. A great show.
An Update, The Girls and Chet actually met in Richmond Virginia and both performed on the Old Dominion Barn Dance before going back to KNOX with Chet to do a radio show there.
