Climate change and malaria: How UNICEF is supporting climate adaptation
Climate change has affected the health of the people in Indonesia. Shifts in rainfall patterns have increased the mosquito population and increased malaria transmission in local communities. In Sumba Island, Indonesia, half of the malaria cases are suffered by children.
UNICEF is working on the ground in collaboration with the government to strengthen primary health care including empowered communities to take environmental action to protect children’s health from the adverse impacts of climate change.
