The Capital Ring - Walks 7 & 8 - Richmond To Hanwell

For those that enjoy walking, one special thing you can do is to walk the Capital Ring, which goes around London, inside the M25. It goes from Woolwich in a clockwise direction—though there’s nothing to stop anyone from walking it the other way round!—all around the inner loop and takes in a lot of wonderful suburbs and countryside.

This video is a record I made of photographs on legs seven and eight. Leg seven begins in Richmond, Surrey, and then meanders up through Brentford. Leg eight then takes on onwards to Isleworth and finishes in Hanwell.

For quite a while on these two legs you’re walking near water. At first the river Thames, and then along the Grand Union Canal.

One fascinating part is that you have to climb the stairs at a pub called The Town Wharf in Isleworth because it’s been built directly across the Capital Ring walk. For this reason it cannot obstruct the walk because a public right of way. I’m sure that many who do this choose to stop off and have a drink and perhaps a bite to eat!

We chose not to because we did this part when the pub was closed. But later we did have lunch at a really good café in Hanwell, call the The Clocktower.

We have since done a couple more legs of the walk, but that’s for another video and story!

I hope anyone who watches this enjoy seeing the sites. Recorded on a very warm—for late February—day. Beautiful wall-to-wall sunshine all day and a lovely meal at the end of it!
