Oregon’s Waterfall Highway is perfect for winter exploration!

One of Oregon’s most scenic drives is Hwy 138! Nicknamed the waterfall highway, there’s something for all ages and abilities to see here. Plus one of the most beautiful hot springs in the state!

💧Waterfalls shown here are Tokatee, Watson, Clearwater, Whitehorse, Fall Creek and Susan Creek. There are more along the route! Google Thundering Waters Umpqua National Forest to get the handy BLM brochure.

♿️ Clearwater and Whitehorse are next to the parking lot, and Susan Creek’s trail is maintained enough for strollers and wheelchairs. (Always check trail conditions for downed trees in winter.)

♨️ Umpqua Hot Springs is located along this route. Road may close in winter. See my previous YT short for more info!

🥾 Trails vary in length and difficulty. The brochure mentioned above has all the info on each specific trail!

❄️ We saw vehicles stuck in the snow trying to get back onto the highway from trailhead parking. We needed to use 4 wheel drive to make it out over the ice. Be sure to check out road conditions ahead of time! We only went as far as Clearwater before we felt that the side roads were too icy to drive on.

⚠️ When we went in December, Fall Creek Falls had a lot of downed trees across the trail, and dead standing trees slated for removal. A week later the trail had a massive flood, so please proceed with caution!
