The Soap: If a shaving soap can be legendary, MDC is the closest thing to it. With a few swirls over the top of this hard, French artisan soap from Leonne, it produces a fine, dense, quintessential high structured lather. The scent strength for Vetyver is a medium 5/10. Vetyver showcases an uplifting, grassy and fresh aspect of vetiver (versus the rooty, earthy, smokey variety). Like all MDC scents, the scent is of the highest quality, and leaves a photorealistic impression. MDC proves that the bandwagonism found among the cadre of artisans with their endless lists of trendy and rare exotic butters and oils (and accompanying claims of dubious benefits), does not replace the soapmaking process embedded with generations of knowledge and tradition. You won’t find here endless iterations of the soap base, or a train of synthetic and forgettable scents. What you get with MDC is beautifully scented soap representing the pinnacle of the soapmaking craft.

The Brush: Simpson’s Polo 8 in Super Badger. (Silvertip). This is a dense 25mm knot that is pure luxury. The bulb knot feels like a massage on the face, soft with just the right amount of scrub and scritch. I love the height of this classic iconic shape.

The Razor: Greaves & Sons 13/16 wedge. This old Sheffield really takes down the whiskers. The stubby tail and wedge shape suggests it is from 1820-1830s. Greaves’ Sheaf Works factory was the first factory in Sheffield, producing razors, cutlery and tools and made the Greaves family incredibly rich. Highly recommend trying out a heavy grind old Sheffield especially if you have a dense or wiry beard.
