The Fourth Sunday of Advent -- Year A

When you are facing an "impossible" situation, how do you respond?

This week’s sermon contrasted two very different reactions to God’s promises:

King Ahaz was ruled by fear. When facing a massive invading army, he turned to worldly solutions and fake piety rather than trusting God’s offer of a sign.

Joseph, an man of faith, chose to trust God’s word in a dream even when he had no tangible proof and every reason to be confused or angry.

The message for us is clear: Emmanuel—God is with us. He is working in power to save and deliver, regardless of the obstacles arrayed against us.

As we move forward, remember that the way ahead will almost never be clear or easy. Don't be an Ahaz, chasing after worldly solutions you can control. Instead, be like Joseph: ground yourself in the character of God and put your faith in the one who makes the impossible possible.
