In Part Two of the Uttarakhand Rajya Andolan series, we explore the early revolutionary phase of the Uttarakhand statehood movement — when young activists, students, writers, cultural workers, and political groups began organizing across the hills and plains of Uttarakhand.

This episode follows the rise of organizations like the Uttarakhand Sangharsh Vahini and the Uttarakhand Janshakti movement, as activists travelled from village to village, held meetings, wrote songs of resistance, organized padyatras, and built a people’s movement demanding a separate Uttarakhand state.

The documentary also dives deep into one of the most dramatic and lesser-known moments of the movement — the protests against the Himalayan Car Rally. Activists viewed the rally as a symbol of exploitation and environmental insensitivity toward the Himalayan region. Through protests across Ramnagar, Mussoorie, Almora and other regions, the movement gained national and international attention.

The resistance disrupted the rally, brought global attention to the growing unrest in Uttarakhand, and marked a turning point in the political consciousness of the region. The Himalayan Car Rally was never organized again in the same manner.

This film combines archival storytelling, recreated historical visuals, oral history, protest culture, songs, and cinematic documentary storytelling to preserve an important chapter of Uttarakhand’s history.
