Bassist: Maurice Gibb (Though live, it was not him on bass)
Album: Saturday Night Fever
Year: 1977
Genre: Disco
Style: fingers (but case could be made for pick)
The below videos don't have too much, but show that all the bassists playing with the band used their fingers except when Maurice mimed the part, he used a pick. Also, due to the nature of the line, I'm going to put it all by frets 1 and 3, despite it being shown near fret 6. I think it's what people are expecting, but more importantly I think it suits the part much better than that big shift from fret 6 to 1, constantly throughout the line, but also makes it a little more beginner friendly. I know for a while I was focused on being too exact, maybe I've swung a little far in the other direction, or maybe I'm right where I need to be. Anyways, if you want to play it up, the notes are the same, so be my guest
Also, the x-1-4-3, the 4 sounds halfway between G and G#. Either kind of fits, so I picked one and went with it. Live videos don't show it. I spent a good half hour looking at every occurance in the song and also using a tuner and such and it's kind of half way in between. It's likely done as a 3 on the E and just naturally bent when played originally, but not played as a true bend. That's hard to notate, so I went with the higher pitch.

You can see Maurice on Keys and then a different bass player (Matt Bonelli) on Bass
0:24 - Matt is around fret 6 and 8, not 1 and 3 (5 string bass)
1:17 - same (fingers)
That works well if a 5 string bass (moving to the Low B), but you can't hit the low F if a 4 string without a huge shift
This performance sounds like it's in Eb or D. Also, you can hear the 1h3 in the riff clearly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ivHgTV-R4
another bassist (not Matt or Maurice)
0:40 - middle of neck, not near fret 1/3 (fingers)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNSP4wK3Wzw
Harold Carolt on bass in this one
1:37 - Fender bass, Hand is outside the shoulder, but too blurry to see anything else
1:48 - a little easier to see, but not really
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqjJQW3mca0
This one is real interesting, Maurice is on the bass here.
0:53- Maurice goes from fret 6/8 to fret 1 on the E. Looks like a picking technique
1:13 - Instruments are mimed. Makes sense now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnBPZpJRJ2w
1989, so it's George Perry
1:13 - back left, fingers. Arm much further out, meaning by frets 1/3
1:25 - on the left, camera just catches. Fingers
2:33 - shows low on neck, and the blip at 2:35 as well
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
