In the history of tennis, no Ukrainian player has ever won any of the most revered tournaments of the Grand Slam in adult singles.
But at the junior level, Ukrainian tennis aces have won such tournaments more than once.
Marta Kostyuk, a 14-year old girl from Kyiv has joined the brilliant assembly of tournament champions in 2017, among them Andriy Medvedev, Kateryna Bondarenko, and Elina Svitolina, who previously won the junior Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.
It is the first time such a young player had won a Junior Grand Slam tournament.
At the Australian Open, the Ukrainian tennis player made quite a mark for herself.
