Kaye E Barker on River Rouge at Dix Rd bridge
Interlake Steamship's Kaye E Barker departs AK Steel in River Rouge Michigan after discharging their load of iron ore. She was Constructed in 1951 for the Cleveland Cliffs Steamship Company as the Edward B. Greene. She was built at American Shipbuilding Company's yard in Toledo, Ohio. Originally a 647 foot straight decker, she was lenghtened to 767 ft in the 1975/76 layup and was converted to a self unloader 1980/81. Cleveland Cliffs sold the Greene to the Rouge Steel Corporation and she was renamed the Benson Ford. Ford got out of the shipping industry in 1989, current owners acquired her and christened her the Kaye E Barker. She is capable of carrying 25,900 tons.
