LUMS Orientation 2020 - SBASSE Edition

In the midst of a deadly virus, which has affected our world in more than one way, LUMS SBASSE took upon themselves to hold an online orientation session with the freshies who have recently joined us in 2020.

Here Dr Muhammad Abubakr talks about 'What inspires SBASSE'. From how Maxwell inspired modern-day drones and how Tesla was really more of an engineer than a scientist. He shares the hidden meanings behind the several SBASSE department wings which were named after visionary engineers and scientists.

Dr. Abubakr Muhammad is an associate professor and chair of electrical engineering, the founding director of the Center for Water Informatics & Technology (WIT), and the lead for NCRA National Agricultural Robotics Lab at LUMS. He received master's degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering from Georgia Tech and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania and McGill University. Since 2008, his research group at LUMS is doing applied research in robotics, automation and AI with applications to water, agriculture, and environmental issues.
