CSP Chanukah Night 7 Message (Asaf Rabi)

Asaf’s music is at a cultural crossroads that reflects the paths he has walked as an instrumentalist throughout his life: It combines elements of jazz, 1970s Rock ‘n’ Roll, Indian classical and old Hebrew music. While he is quite a virtuoso on the bass guitar, Asaf’s real prowess comes across not by a need to show off manual dexterity but rather his ability to draw on the above-mentioned influences when constructing a melody or a phrase. His accomplishments on the fretless bass and upright bass allow Asaf to blend naturally in ensembles playing the music of non-Western cultures eamlessly, and his studies in the East show through in the naturalness of his improvisations. As a sideman, Asaf has been playing performing
and recording with Artists such as Amir Benayoun, Berry Sakharof, Shuli Rand and countless others. Asaf has joined the Jerusalem East & West Orchestra in 2015 where he supports the grooves of North African and Arabic music and accompany artists such as, Ziv Yekhezkel, David Broza and Nasrin Qadri. In his ongoing education, Asaf has graduated from Amsterdam Conservatory Jazz department, studied and played with South India's top musicians such as Ravichandra Kulur, Guitar Prasanna and with Persian music master Eyal Mani. Currently, Asaf is expanding his versatility by focusing on the Double Bass practice and the ultimate
practice of complete relaxation that has profoundly enriched his musical and
professional abilities.
