Japan Rice Crisis; Government Dipping Into Its Emergency Stockpile: Is Japan Short Of Rice?

Think Japan and you imagine Omurice, Sushi and all of this made of rice. Even mc donalds burger buns have rice there. But the country is now facing a rice crisis. It looks like its running short of rice. Japanese supermarkets imposed buying limits and restaurants were forced to increase prices. The Japanese government, in a rare move, has turned to its emergency stockpile and started auctioning rice, 231,000 tonnes of it, 1/5th of the total reserves. Pallavi sharma explains why Japan might be running out of rice.
