Is the PMBOK Guide Still Relevant in the Age of AI? (Ep. 52)

Every time a new edition of the PMBOK® Guide comes out, the same type of questions shows up:

“Is this still relevant?

Doesn’t AI change everything?

Should we even worry about standards if the job is going away?”

All of these questions are fair, especially when we consider that technology is moving fast, AI is reshaping how work gets performed, and jobs get redefined. However, what I keep coming back to is the that the foundations of good judgement don’t disappear.

Standards don’t exist to predict the future, they exist to keep us anchored while the future unfolds.

The latest PMBOK® Guide doesn’t try to tell us what AI will do next. Instead, it reinforces the principles and practices that will matter no matter what technology we’re using.

Standards are supposed to offer clarity, consistency, a shared language, and a foundation to build on, not a blueprint we must obey.
