RENNtech Upgrades for My SLS Black Series? Stock Dyno Run

My SLS AMG Black Series will be getting some upgrades from RENNtech! Let's head out on the Autobahn to take it up and talk about exactly what it's going to be getting, while also putting the car on the dyno to see what power it makes right now and whether there are any losses from new.

After finishing up the visual modifications with the respray to Mystic Blue at Chartwell, full PPF from Topaz and silver wheels at Kerbsafe, next up was always to start talking about a visit to RENNtech. A few years ago my AMG GT R went through the stage 2 to the R760 package with new turbos and became a monster, so the temptation has always been there for the SLS Black Series as well.

Heading out from the garage, means a run up the Autobahns towards RENNtech and to talk about how the car sounds now with the 6.2l NA V8 and what I'm looking to do. Most likely I'll go full on for the R1 package which consists of new headers, sports-cats and an ECU tune. Being a naturally aspirated engine that means we won't be looking at crazy horsepower gains but a sharpening in engine performance with plenty of extra sound. You might be wondering about the exhaust, well the car has a titanium back box as standard so changing it wouldn't actually bring about all that much increase in volume - we will however take it step by step without going crazy as I do intend the car to be one that is used for many long journeys.

On arrival at RENNtech, they also have their full tuned GT R Pro present, but we take the SLS straight over to the dyno to get it strapped down and see how close to the factory 631hp and 635nm it manages to reach. You would always expect a big NA engine to be a very different game to the newer turbo engines that are so dependent upon many other factors. As such even on a great day it might not make the 631, and despite having 102 RON fuel onboard the numbers cap out at 582hp (49 down) and 593nm (42nm down). While these are lower than I'd have expected, they do give us the benchmark to look back at after upgrades.
