Thanksgiving and Christmas Oven Roasted Turkey Recipe
It’s very important that the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Preheat your oven to 325°
It takes approximately 20 minutes/lb (not 25 min/lb) to roast in the oven at 325°
For this recipe, it took 4 hours and 20 minutes.
21 lb Turkey
1 lb bag of brining mix
1 plastic heavy-duty brining bag
In a cooking pot, add 16 cups of water. Bring it to a boil.
Add brine mix to the pot of hot water on high heat until the salt is completely dissolved.
Turn off the heat and let chill to room temperature.
Clean the turkey and place in large ziplock bag with the turkeys breast/belly face down.
Add the liquid and seal bag.
Leave bag in fridge for the next 24 hours.
(It takes 1hr/lb to brine your turkey)
After brining is complete, remove Turkey and dry it with a paper towel.
You will need the following items for the actual cooking.
two large onions
One bulb of garlic
Carrots and celery
Rosemary, Sage,Thyme
Salt and pepper
3 butter sticks
Start by adding one large tablespoon of salt and black pepper into the cavity of the turkey
Add garlic & onion. Be sure not to over-stuff the turkey
Add the Sage, Rosemary and thyme into cavity.
For the butter mixture:
Add some chopped garlic rosemary and thyme.
Then, add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
Mix thoroughly.
Carefully separate the skin from the turkey breast with your hand.
Grab a 3/4 of your butter mixture, start rubbing on the turkey breast
Take the remaining butter mix and massage and rub the rest of your turkey with it.
