Assembling an Intel 8088 XT PC with kits and a few used parts it's time to do this thing !
#dospc #diykit #sergeykiselev
It's time to put all these parts together and see if my kit building skills are as good as I claim.
I had to record this again after the old PSU let out the magic smoke and took out a few of the caps on the back plane before I could finish recording (shame I missed the actual smoke !) , so I replaced all of them and cleaned the edge connectors as they gave me a few problems the first time.
We test the back plane for shorts and make sure voltages are good and in the correct place before testing. I put all the dip switches back to stock to reproduce all the issues I had before.
Later on I find the details for the UMB settings and tag those onto the end.
Chapters:
00:44 intro
01:01 quick overview
02:10 time lapse insert of the back plane cleaning
02:48 testing the back plane
06:03 first power to the back plane - test voltages
07:24 testing the video card first to be safe
08:23 first power-up of the 8088 card
10:19 setting up the internal speaker
11:02 Bios setup
11:59 replicating the XT-IDE errors
13:09 correcting the dip switches on the XT-IDE
14:46 running Checkit
15:57 testing the Adlib Sound card
19:56 testing graphics modes with Planet X3
21:57 explaining the Upper Memory Block switches
24:19 final summery and thanks for all the fishes
For all the details and files needed to make this go to

and for the upper memory settings I used the NuXT manual

Thank you for watching these videos, I have a few more cards to make up and test as well as a case of some sort and a PICO psu.
I just brought the Rode Wireless GO microphone so buy me a drink if you like what I am doing, want to see more and help towards new equipment.
