The History Behind New Film “Lowndes County & the Road to Black Power” | The Atlantic Festival 2022

Filmmakers and subjects of “Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power” discuss the film—which tells the story of the local movement and young SNCC organizers in the 1960s who fought not just for voting rights, but for Black power in Lowndes County, Alabama—and its impact with The Atlantic’s senior editor Vann R. Newkirk II. The documentary, inspired in part by Vann’s reporting and produced in association with The Atlantic, first premiered at Tribeca.
