Testing 7 Vegan Egg Substitutes for Baking Cookies | Guide to Vegan Baking

Kat and Dev try baking our Chocolate Chunk Cookie recipe using 7 different egg substitutes – flax egg, vegan yogurt, aquafaba, chia egg, applesauce, egg replacer, and carbonated water! Let's see which substitute does the best job of binding the cookies without spreading too much or changing the flavour. Full blog post coming soon!!

We substituted one egg with:

Flax egg = 1 tbsp ground flax seed + 3 tbsp warm water
Aquafaba egg = 3 tbsp of aquafaba
Vegan yogurt= 4 tbsp or 58grams in our case
Chia egg = 1 tbsp ground chia seeds + 3 tbsp water
Egg replacer = according to package
Apple sauce = 4 tbsp
Carbonated water = 1/4 cup
