MRT-3 DEPLOYS RECORD-HIGH 23 TRAINS ON THE MAINLINE.

The MRT-3 has broken its own record for the highest number of running trains deployed on its main line, after it fielded 23 train sets on 17 January 2021.

This was the first time that the MRT-3 has deployed a total running trains of this figure, after it first recorded an all-time high of 22 running trains last 21 September 2020.

The increase in the number of fielded trains helps in augmenting the capacity of the rail line to load passengers.

"We have been working doubly hard to deliver a better and more efficient railway transportation to our passengers. Our recent achievements only show that we are committed 100% and are on track to fulfill the vision of Sec. Arthur P. Tugade -- a comfortable and reliable public transportation for all," MRT-3 Director for Operations Michael J. Capati said.

It can be recalled that the rail line hiked its train operating speed to 60kph on 07 December 2020, from the previous 50kph. This has reduced average headway or waiting time between trains from the previous 8.5 to 9 minutes to 3.5 to 4 minutes. Travel time from North Avenue station to Taft station has also been cut to 45 to 50 minutes, from the previous 1hour and 15minutes.

The increase in train speed and number of deployed trains is a result of good maintenance service and replacement of rails in the entire main line, which was completed last September 2020, several months ahead of its scheduled February 2021 completion.

These are part of the massive rehabilitation of MRT-3, slated for completion this year, by its maintenance provider Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from Japan.

Last 08 January 2021, Japan Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa personally experienced this faster MRT-3 ride after the Japanese envoy paid a visit to the depot as part of his ocular inspection of Japan-funded railway projects.

Today, 18 January 2021, is also the launching of the rail line's own contact tracing web app, the MRT-3 Trace, which aims to digitize the manual process of contact tracing, thereby easing the entire process and lessening contact among passengers as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19.

This is aside from continued strict enforcement of strict health and safety protocols inside MRT-3 trains, the "7 COMMANDMENTS" based on health experts' recommendations: 1) Wear face masks and face shields; 2) No talking and making phone calls; 3) No eating; 4) Keep PUVs well-ventilated; 5) Conduct of frequent disinfection; 6) No symptomatic passengers; and 7) Observe appropriate physical distancing rule.
