This time, I’m joined by Evan Ratliff. Evan is an award-winning investigative journalist, bestselling author, and podcast host, known for his reporting on technology, crime, and online identity. I recently discovered Evan via his excellent podcast, Shell Game, and have been excitedly diving into all his previous work since then. Suffice to say, I had lots to ask him and, as you’ll hear, Evan has many great stories to tell.

First, Last, Everything explores people’s personal relationships with technology. Each episode, host Jonathan Reed gets to know a guest through three pieces of tech: their first inspiration, their last obsession, and the one that meant everything. From software to strange gadgets and more, anything goes.

We also take a small dive into the past to talk about a piece of technology that you may not have heard of. Weird, ahead of its time, an abject failure or success, whatever it was, it was certainly… something.
