Who: kent
What: Vapen & Ammunition - winter tour 2002
Where: Filmed live at Olympiske Fjellhall, Gjøvik, Norway
When: 18 October 2002

Personal note:

At the height of the career, this is by far one of the most extensive tours they have done. 59 dates all over Scandinavia, many of them sold out, few other Swedish bands could achieve what they were doing at the time.

After the unbeatable masterpiece of Hagnesta Hill, my expectation was sky-high for a new album. Where would they go after having packed so much guitars on the last 3-4 albums? Will it be Hagnesta Hill #2? Isola ver. 3?

What followed was 10 solid pop songs with brilliant balance of guitars and keyboards. Winter dark lyrics sung by warm voice of Jocke. To me it was as perfect as Depeche Mode's Violator (Well, that's what my naive part of me felt when it came out). I still remember hearing Dom Andra for the first time on radio premiere on P3. No major hooks a la Om Du Var Här, it was a strange track. However, packed full of melancholy and moodiness, it was haunting and instantly convincing. Good enough to make you think "the next one is going to be a masterpiece".

To me it did. Year 2002. 3 years before Du och Jag Döden album.

Looking back, few people would agree that Vapen & Ammunition is their best album. It may even be one of the weakest. However it felt like one given what a sonic leap they had made from the previous effort. More subtle than before, smarter mix of long and short riffs/refrains. More danceable yet more melancholic. It was a perfect soundtrack for cold winter 02.

Fortunately enough I had a chance to see them 3 times on that tour. The first two in Gothenburg and Stockholm on Kalasturnén, the other in Stockholm on the winter tour. With each show gathering more and more crowds it was clear they popularity was growing steady and surely. Someone said a ticket for Kalasturnén went over a few thousands krona in the black market (!). Having followed since 1996, seeing them play in front of such big crowds was a proud moment. Sweden's best kept secret almost. I was really proud of being part of this phenomenon called Kent and it was all happening in my backyard of Sweden.

About the film:

Fresh transfer from the 1st generation DVD copy. Edited and synced on Final Cut Pro X.

Filmer: C. H.
Lineage: MiniDV master - Firewire - unknown software - DVD - mp4 - Final Cut Pro X

In order to improve the overall quality I have adjusted various filters.

For audio: EQ, loudness & uniformity, general volume level, pan mode/amount, & surround correction
For video: saturation, exposure, colour, & speed correction

Even though it's a full show from start to finish there are a few bits and pieces missing in the original source. I have edited it as natural as possible without ruining the overall flow.

Obtained in a trade ca 2003 directly from the filmer. A few VHS copies are in circulation. However it's not sure how many DVD copies have been made.

Unfortunately the original audio is distorted and bass is heavy. For this reason I have replaced it with my own recording from Globen, Stockholm 3 December 2002. Taped on a Sharp MT831-S MD recorder with a Sony ECM717 mic. Positioned ca 10 metres from stage.

The only exceptions are Saker man ser, Stoppa mig juni (lilla ego), and Himmelsk drog - recorded at Nidaröhallen, Trondheim 17 October 2002 on a Sharp MT90 MD recorder + Beyerdynamic MCE82 mic. Taper: B. G. Generation: 1st from the master.

My audio is fresh digital transfer from the master using a Sony MZ-RH1 hi-MD recorder. Re-sampled to 1644 on Sonic stage, then further remastered and synced on Final Cut Pro X. Digitally available for the first time. The previous one has been traded from an analogue sourced copy.

As usual it was made by fans for fans.

Never sell, always support the band & buy their records/merchandise!

No copyright infringement is intended whatsoever.

All due credits go to Kent and their music.

Huge thanks to the filmer and taper.

Cheesy and worn-out confession: Yes, I miss them a lot. Not a single day goes by without listening to them. I have long carried two Gods with me: Depeche Mode and Kent. One is barely around, the other is no more. It feels like I lost one arm for good.
