Three Candidates File for Solwezi Mayoral Seat

Three candidates have successfully filed their nominations to contest the Solwezi mayoral seat ahead of the August General Elections.

This follows the commencement of the nomination process by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for candidates aspiring for mayoral and ward councillor positions in Solwezi District.

District Returning Officer Stanley Mbewe said the process has so far been relatively peaceful, with candidates complying with electoral guidelines.

Mr. Mbewe disclosed that minor misunderstandings occurred at Kamalamba Ward Nomination Centre after two aspiring candidates presented adoption certificates for the same position. He explained that the matter was quickly resolved by electoral officials, allowing the process to continue without disruption.

He has since appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to maintain peace and avoid acts that may disturb the smooth conduct of the electoral process.

Mr. Mbewe further revealed that two more candidates have successfully filed nominations to contest the Solwezi Central Constituency parliamentary seat, bringing the total number of candidates to six.
