Fatima Askira is a young woman from Maiduguri, the hotspot of Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast and she shares the story of her journey as a peacebuilder and one of the pioneers of women and girls development in Northern Nigeria. Initiative, an organization that aims to
empower women and youth to play a
constructive role in promoting peace
and tolerance. Fatima is a member of
African Women Leadership Network (AWLN), and the Secretary of AWLN Nigeria Chapter.
Fatima is also a member of FEMWISE-Africa, promoting the participation of young women in
peace processes. She leads an innovative mentoring program for Nigerian youths, including
rescued victims of Boko Haram. Fatima focuses on de-radicalization and the creation of
positive alternative narratives for women, girls and youths in the Northeast. Her interactive
trainings and humanitarian support gives women and youth in Northeast Nigeria a very rare
opportunity to openly discuss the conflict issues and social problems leading to radicalization
