Everest the harder way | Nick Talbot | TEDxWhitehall

Climbing Mount Everest is never easy. But it is considerably harder when you suffer from cystic fibrosis, a severe genetic condition that affects the lungs in particular. Until quite recently, few sufferers survived into adulthood.

Nick Talbot is not only a mountaineer with cystic fibrosis, but his attempts to climb Everest coincided with a terrible natural disaster striking the mountain in 2014 and another in 2015. This inspiring talk shows how he overcame all these setbacks to find ultimate success, in doing so raising the profile of research towards tackling and curing this devastating disease.
Nick Talbot is CEO of the International Valuation Standards Council, a not-for-profit organisation that is looking to improve the global approach to valuation, a fundamental part of our financial system which indirectly affects almost everyone.

He is 40 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). After participating in medical trials earlier in his life, he has more recently embarked on some unusual ways of fundraising for CF charities, to help raise money towards medical breakthroughs to help manage or cure Cystic Fibrosis.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
