Things To Do in East Chinatown | Toronto Chinatown Food Tour | Matt's Megabites
This was filmed on March 2nd. I do not suggest people go out and try to explore these places now until it is safe to do so. Enjoy!
When people associate Chinatown with Toronto Spadina may be the street people think of first. But Toronto has another Chinatown East at Broadview. Many Chinese immigrants in the 50 and 70's made the move from the west to the east due to rising property values. It has since been a home to the community. The first to pop up a shop was Charlie Cheung who opened up a meat shop in 1971 names Charlie's Meats.
East Chinatown starts at Hamilton street where you'll be greeted with a stunning Arch Gate which has become historic in it's recognition in East Chinatown.
Just north on Broadview is Riverdale hill. In the morning it's become a popular spot for some to practice Tai Chi. A familiar site from the award winning film Bao, which won an academy award in 2018. The director Domee Shi grew up just blocks away in Leslieville. Their are plenty of bakery's, restaurants, clinics, and even small groceries stores on Gerrard and Broadview.
After looking at so many shrimp I had a urge to grab a bag of shrimp chips.
New Bakery is another great shop to grab an easy bite. Whether it's a nice bun, or a combination plate of whichever items you are in the mood for. The prices here are incredibly cheap, so no need to break the piggy bank. A few coins in your pocket will do just fine.
One of the most popular, historic restaurant in East Chinatown is no other than Pearl Court. A Chinese restaurant open late for pub goers, or early for those dim sum connoisseurs. This place has been serving the community since the early 80's
