The EU officially began its anti-subsidy investigation into the imports of new electric vehicles from China on October 4. China is now the world's largest electric vehicle exporter. The overall exports of China's EVs, lithium and solar batteries, in the first half of 2023, climbed by 61.6 percent compared with a year earlier. China's auto exports are consistent with the Chinese economy's upward trajectory during the first half of this year, but the U.S. and the EU have not responded favorably to China's robust economic statistics. How should countries handle trade disputes? We talked to Jeffery Sachs, professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, to find out more.
