This old earthen jar has seen better days, but it’s about to get a new life. First, it’s quickly rinsed and cleaned, then cut open to reveal the inside. A white coat of paint is brushed on to brighten the background. Rocks are arranged to shape a miniature mountain scene, followed by small pebbles to form the base. Flat stones are placed into a winding path, giving the layout depth. Clayey soil is pressed into pockets where plants and moss will grow, helping them stay in place and hold moisture. Moss is added to cover the bare spots, and small plants are tucked between the rocks to bring in more green. Finally, a layer of white sand is poured at the front to finish the scene. In a short time, what was once an unused jar becomes a detailed terrarium that looks like a tiny mountain trail. Would you make one yourself?
