One handed katana use - East Asian history [sword talk/historical]

Can a katana be used single handed? Should it be used one handed? This week I am in a cast for an unstable fracture of my finger so I dive into the pros and cons of one handed use of a katana sized weapon focusing on historical use in Japan, China and Korea.
Sources range from Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings to Chinese General Qi JiGuang's JiXiaoXinShu to Korean official scholar Ryu Seong-Ryeong's Jingbirok and the classical Muyedobotongji with some insight provided by Dr Bok Kyu Choi's paper on Korean swordsmanship.
