Rewriting Rachmaninoff: Transcriptions and Revisions in the Library’s Collection
David Plylar of the Music Division explores aspects of the Library’s Sergei Rachmaninoff collections focusing on the composer’s acts of “rewriting.” These includes samples of Rachmaninoff’s sketches, editing marks, revisions, ossia passages, transcriptions of his own works, and transcriptions of others. Also referenced are transcriptions of Rachmaninoff’s works by Kreisler and Heifetz.
