AutoCAD 2027 Units and Drawing Setup Explained for Beginners
In this AutoCAD 2027 tutorial for beginners, you’ll learn how units work in AutoCAD and why drawing setup is important before creating real objects.
This lesson explains drawing units, real measurements, the UNITS command, Length Type, Precision, Insertion Scale, angle settings, and beginner drawing setup step by step.
Welcome back to Cadelyx — AutoCAD 2027 Made Simple.
In the previous video, we learned about the Status Bar in AutoCAD 2027 and important drafting settings like Grid, Snap, Ortho, Polar Tracking, Object Snap, Dynamic Input, and Lineweight. In this lesson, we move to one of the most important beginner topics in AutoCAD: Units and Drawing Setup.
AutoCAD is not just about drawing lines on the screen. AutoCAD is about drawing with real measurements. If a wall is 10 feet long, we draw it as 10 feet. If a door is 3 feet wide, we draw it as 3 feet. If a table is 1200 millimeters wide, we draw it as 1200 millimeters.
In this beginner-friendly AutoCAD tutorial, you will learn why units are important, how AutoCAD uses drawing units, and why you should decide your unit system before starting any real drawing.
A very important beginner rule is:
Draw real size first. Print scale later.
In AutoCAD Model Space, we do not draw smaller just to fit the screen. We draw objects at real size and later control the scale when printing, plotting, or exporting to PDF.
In this video, you will learn:
What units mean in AutoCAD
Why units are important for accurate drafting
Why AutoCAD does not work like paper drawing
What one drawing unit means
How to open the Drawing Units window using the UNITS command
What Length Type means
When to use Decimal units
When to use Architectural units
What Precision controls in AutoCAD
What Insertion Scale means
How angle settings work
How to choose a simple beginner unit setup
Why changing units does not automatically resize old drawings
How to think about feet, inches, millimeters, and real measurements
Why you should decide your unit system before drawing
This video is perfect for complete beginners who are learning AutoCAD 2027 step by step. If you want to create floor plans, mechanical drawings, civil drawings, architectural layouts, interior design drawings, construction drawings, or professional 2D drafting projects, understanding units is very important.
Many beginners make the mistake of drawing something that only looks correct on the screen. But in AutoCAD, the drawing must be accurate. That means the length, width, height, wall thickness, door size, spacing, and object dimensions should match real measurements.
This video is part of the complete AutoCAD 2027 Full Course for Beginners on Cadelyx. The goal of this course is to make AutoCAD simple, practical, and easy to understand for students, engineers, architects, interior designers, civil drafting learners, mechanical drafting learners, construction professionals, freelancers, and anyone who wants to learn AutoCAD from zero.
In the next video, we will create our first AutoCAD object using the Line Command. We will learn how to start the Line command, pick points, type exact distances, and use the Command Line while drawing.
