HYD SHC Show cause Notice Secretary Health Sindh.
HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court (SHC) Circuit Bench Hyderabad on Friday expressed strong displeasure over the non-compliance of court orders by officials of the provincial health department regarding the long-pending salaries and regularisation of contract midwives working across Jamshoro district.
A divisional bench comprising Justice Amjad Ali Bohyo and Justice Riaz Ali Sahar heard the petition filed by Yasmeen and 18 other contract lady health workers, represented by Advocate Asif Shaikh.
During the hearing, the counsel informed the court that midwives posted in various areas of Jamshoro district — including Kotri, Thano Bula Khan, Manjhand, Sehwan and Bhan Saeedabad — have been working on contract since 2020.
He stated that the health department stopped their salaries from June 2025, despite the fact that the workers continued performing their duties. “Due to the non-payment of salaries for the last nine months, the petitioners are facing severe financial hardship, and their households are on the brink of collapse,” the counsel argued.
The petitioners pleaded before the court that the authorities be directed to explain the reasons for withholding their salaries and issue immediate orders for the release of pending payments. “We have been forced into extreme financial distress. The court should ensure that our salaries are released without further delay,” the counsel requested.
The bench recalled that during the previous hearing, the Secretary Health had directed a focal person to appear before the court and submit reasons for the non-payment of wages and to comply with the earlier orders. However, despite repeated summons, neither the Health Secretary nor the DHO Jamshoro appeared before the court.
Taking serious notice of the continued absence and failure to comply with court directives, the SHC issued a show-cause notice to the Secretary Health and ordered him to appear in person on April 14.
The court adjourned the hearing, warning that strict action would be taken in case of further non-compliance.
