I moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in April 2018 under the IEC Working Holiday Program. It’s truly been one of the best experiences of my life, I’ve developed so much as a person. You really learn your strengths and work on your weaknesses by having to start all over again - with job hunting, finding a place to live, making new friends, dating and general life admin. I was surprised at how easy and accessible the opportunity was!

They cannot be older than 6 months and required for countries you’ve stay in 6 months or more as well as current country in a row after age 18
~ Medical exam certificate (IF REQUIRED)

You most likely will if you lived or travelled in certain places, plan to work in health, school system, child care and elderly care
~ CV/Resume (account for ALL GAPS of time)
~ Passport Copy (must be valid when you apply)
~ Digital Photo
~ Family Information Form IMM5707
+ SUBMIT & PAY
TO SUMMARISE- THESE ARE THE FEES
(On submission of application)
* Pay International Experience Canada participation fee $153 CAD
* $100 Working Holiday Open Work Permit Holder fee (If participating in Working Holiday Program)
* $85 CAD Biometrics fee (as of Dec 19)
(During pool & application)
* Police certificate(s) – (country dependent - mine converts to about $76 CAD at today's rate)
* Medical, if applicable* (dependent on local Doctors fees, $150-550 CAD average)
(After approval)
*Travel insurance policy for length of intended stay in Canada (policy dependant but mine converts to about $890 CAD at today's rate)
* Flights/travel expenses to Canada (can be found online however my return flight from London to UK converts to about $777 CAD at today' s rate)
* $2,500 MIN proof of funds to show on arrival in Canada
TO SUMMARISE- THIS IS THE PROCESS
~ Enter Pool, It opens annually (autumn to autumn mostly)
~ Wait to be called forward in what is referred to as ‘Rounds of Invitation'
~ You could be called forward within days/weeks/months or not at all from that pool
~ Upon being ‘invited’, accept the invite within 10 days and begin your application for an IEC program
~ Complete and submit application and its fees within 20 days of accepting the invite
~ If asked , submit biometrics at a local VAC within 30 days of being asked. More about Biometrics: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/biometrics.asp
~ Application is processed anytime from 1-8 weeks
~ Decision is made
~ If successful you will receive a Port of Entry (PoE) letter
~ You much use this letter to enter Canada within 1 year of receiving it
~ You land at the border and if admitted (by providing the letter and other documents such as Proof of Funds & Insurance)
~ You begin the time allotted to you by your program & country.
+ Notes:
~ I use the word Visa & Permit interchangeably
~ It’s OK if things take longer, there is opportunity to update your profile and the government)
~ Bonus Tip: When submitting your documents the system only allows for 1 file per document, so you may need to compile multiple pages into 1 document with an online tool or by using Mac & Adobe: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202945
~ If you need to transfer money back and forth once you land, by far the best service is Transferwise, it’s much cheaper than other services and very fast!
