Jesse Cook is a guitarist, composer, and producer. Cook has become an influential figure in the nouveau flamenco music movement throughout the course of his career, and incorporates flamenco rumba and jazz music into his compositions. He has collaborated and recorded with Montse Cortés, Flora Purim, Holly Cole, Afro Celt Sound System, Buckwheat Zydeco, Danny Wilde of The Rembrandts, Liona Boyd, Ofra Harnoy, Alex Cuba, Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Dadawa, Djivan Gasparyan and Dulce Pontes. Cook has shared the stage with the likes of B.B. King, Ray Charles, Charlotte Church, and The Chieftains.A Juno Award winner, and a three-time Canadian Smooth Jazz Award-winner, Cook became fascinated by the guitar as a child and tried to emulate the recordings of the famous Gypsy guitarist, Manitas de Plata. Cook moved to Canada with his mother and sister after his parents divorced and began guitar lessons at Toronto’s Eli Kassner Guitar Academy. As a teenager, Cook continued to visit his father in France on a regular basis, whose neighbor happened to be the singer Nicolas Reyes of the group Gipsy Kings. Spending time with Reyes influenced Cook’s development of the Camargue sound which existed on the street corners and cafés in France. Cook’s debut album. 1995’s “Tempest,” peaked at #11 on The Billboard New Age Albums chart and led to a record deal with Narada Records and a performance at the 1995 Catalina Jazz Festival. The success of Cook’s performance at the jazz festival catapulted him into the spotlight, and gained him a whole new legion of fans. 1996 saw his second album, “Gravity” emerge and feature bassist Tony Levin. “Vertigo,” his third album was issued in 1998. It included appearances by Holly Cole and Buckwheat Zydeco. Danny Wilde and Djivan Gasparyan joined Cook on his 2000 album “Free Fall.” That album was certified platinum in Canada. Recorded in Cairo, London, Madrid, Los Angeles and Toronto, 2003’s “Nomad,” featured Afro Celt Sound System, Montse Cortés, Flora Purim and Hossam Ramzy. Melissa McClelland of Whitehorse joined Cook on his 2008 album, “Frontiers.” In 2009 his album “The Rumba Foundation” was released. It featured Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto. Cook’s next album, “The Blue Guitar Sessions” arrived in 2012. It featured a guest spot by Emma-lee. Jesse Cook is a true artist!
