How To Help Children Who Are Grieving. Children's Grief Awareness Day. Ep30 Podcast

Not always sure how to help your child that is grieving? In this episode, we share with you helpful ways to talk about grief with a young child. We have personally experienced the grief of a child within our own family. We also share with you Chrissy Teigen's update about her own daughter Luna and how she is dealing with the death of her younger brother Jack. What we have learned is that If children can love they can mourn and we need to let them in their own way and with help from us as their parents.

We are in the middle of Bereaved Siblings Awareness Month (November) and quickly approaching on November 19th, 2020 is Children's Grief Awareness Day. We felt that It was important that we highlight this unique day to help bring awareness to the need for supporting our children that are grieving. Three great resources that we have found are:

We know from personal experience that there are times where we just don't know what to do or say when our children ask those challenging questions having to do with the death of a loved one. Toni and I have purposely introduced our now 4yr old to our firstborn Olivia Hope who was born and also died on our wedding anniversary in October of 2013. We have pictures throughout the house, trinkets that we have collected representing her, as well as her ashes displayed. From an early age, we started showing Olivia's pictures to James and telling him, "This is your sister." As the years have passed his understanding has depended and more challenging questions have been asked by him specifically having to do with life, death, and heaven.
