HVAC Evaporator Coil Heat Transfer Explained

❄️ Does the evaporator coil actually make cold air?

In this clip from Visualizing HVAC Excellence Ep. 6: The Evaporator — The Heat Absorber, CMHE John Ingersoll explains how airflow across the evaporator coil allows heat to transfer from indoor air into the refrigerant.

The blower moves air across the coil, often around 350 to 450 CFM per ton, while the coil fins increase the heat transfer area so the evaporator can absorb heat more effectively.

That is evaporator coil operation in action.
