Spending the night with Kyrgyz nomads! - Tash Rabat to Chatyr Kul - Backpacking Kyrgyzstan

When I arrived in Naryn I knew the next few days to follow would be some of my best in Kyrgyzstan. And I was right. As interesting as visiting a shelter from the Silk Road era sounded, I was much more interested in the trekking portion of my visit to Tash Rabat. Filmed in late June, I knew going over a 13,000 ft. pass in Kyrgyzstan at this time of year couldn't be without its fair share of bad weather. Nonetheless, I embrace it all as part of the journey and the life changing experience that it was. I did not film during my dinner with the nomadic family as communication was non-existent and I did not want to make them uncomfortable. We ate yak meat plov and I received the biggest share of food out of the entire family. Not to mention endless cups of milk tea and a large glass of horse milk after the meal just so all that food settled properly (it did not). This was one of the most significant cultural experiences in my travels to date. I hope you enjoy my experience with these special people as much as I did. I also hope you enjoy the mind blowing views looking into China from the beautiful Panda Pass of the western At-Bashi mountains.
