Aprilia Scarabeo 50 DiTech Rattle at Idle | Oil Injection Failure Explained

This video shows piston slap on a 2002 Aprilia Scarabeo 50 DiTech caused by oil starvation.

After a big bore cylinder replacement, the oil injection line became brittle and fractured, resulting in loss of two-stroke oil delivery. Although the oil line was later replaced with a silicone oil line (visible in this clip), the cylinder had already been damaged.

What you’re hearing here is piston slap caused by oil starvation and accelerated cylinder wear. The engine still ran briefly, but the cylinder was severely worn at this point.

After this video, the engine was torn down and rebuilt again correctly. Once repaired, it ran reliably for thousands of miles before being sold.

I’m sharing this as a diagnostic reference so DiTech owners can recognize this sound early.
