SYNOPSIS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The original Star Trek series, which aired from 1966 to 1969, features a diverse cast of characters led by Captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner. Along with the logical Vulcan officer Spock, portrayed by Leonard Nimoy, and the passionate chief medical officer Dr. McCoy, played by DeForest Kelley, the crew of the starship Enterprise explores new worlds and encounters various alien species. The show tackles social and political issues of the time through science fiction themes, such as racism, war, and technology's impact on society. Other main characters include the skilled navigator Lt. Sulu, played by George Takei, the capable communications officer Lt. Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols, and the young and eager Ensign Chekov, played by Walter Koenig. The chemistry between these characters, along with their individual strengths and flaws, helped to make the show a beloved classic of science fiction television, and it has since gained a devoted following of fans, known as "Trekkies."
