#NowIKnow - Amanda's story

It’s time to hear your stories. Meet autistic woman and SENCO Coordinator, Amanda...

“It's important for more people to understand autism in women because a lot of people think we don't exist. The stats say it's a very male condition and that's not necessarily true because there's lots of women like me who only get diagnosed in adulthood after they find out about a child. And it was five years after my son was diagnosed that I got my diagnosis and it was only through him that I learned about myself. And people need to know that anybody can be autistic. You can be the person next door, could be the person across the street. There are lots of undiagnosed autistic women walking about out there, who are probably struggling and don't know why.”
