Caroline moved to Canberra over six months ago to support her daughter, but has spent most of that time living out of her car while she's struggled to find work and affordable housing.

Canberra charity St John's Care says the increased cost of living has even driven people with car loans and mortgages to access their services to obtain basic daily necessities.

And heading into winter, the charity is unsure it can address the surge in new clients coming to them for help and is appealing to Canberrans for donations.
