This video is intended to show that opossums are not the vicious animals that so many people believe they are. Yes, they make noise and slober...yes, they are capable of biting but they do not attack even when cornered.

I understand some of you may be concerned that I am harming or stressing the animals. They are not being harmed and I would rather stress them a little so that they can be shown to be the gentle creatures they are. They have prehensile tails and holding them like I do does no harm. It is not true that they hang from their tails and I don't suggest grabbing one by the tail unless you know what you are doing because it is possible to hurt them. Be kind to opossums : )

"Hey guys! It's Dusty Showers here of the 2nd Basemen. We fight breast cancer in very unusual ways. One of the ways that I do it is I use something like this, it is a pink bra and I use something like this -- this one actually happens to be just a fake stuffed possum. But as you might know, possums are my absolute favorite animal. I'm on a mission to make sure that everybody knows that the possums aren't the ferocious-vicious animals that people think they are. And they're not just big rats either; they're amazing, amazing animals. They've got a prehensile tail; they've got a foot just like you and me where they have opposable thumbs; more than 50 teeth -- more than any other North American mammal. They are awesome animals and of course, like a kangaroo, they keep their babies in their pouch. Now the videos that I'm going to show you, there are a couple of them where the possums are growling and snarling a little bit, but like most marsupials, they're a little weird like that but that doesn't mean that I'm hurting them. It does stress them out a little bit, so I know some of you might be concerned about them being stressed out. But I think that the overriding factor is that I hear too many stories about how vicious possums are and how people like to shoot them or even hit them with shovels because they just think that they're these mean animals. So I've got a couple of them here and for the greater cause, they're gonna let me handle them a little bit. I promise-promise-promise that I do not hurt them. In these videos, I've got the neighborhood kids around, there's nothing wrong with the animals. I'm holding them very lightly. In fact, while my fingers are firm around their neck, I'm not squeezing it. I'm just making it so that they can't turn to bite me. So check out the videos. Next time you see a possum around just wave to it, give it a great big smile, wish it good luck and stay out of its way and they're great little animals. Oh! Hey! It's Dusty Showers from The 2nd Basemen and I'm here with one of my favorite animals -- actually my favorite animal -- this is an old male opossum, and he's actually a pretty big one. Now, this is for all those people that tell me how vicious opossums are. They're actually very gentle animals. He's shaking like crazy; I feel bad for him but I just want to show you that possums are great... they can bite and he will bite if I give him the opportunity, but vicious -- they're not. So whenever you see a possum around, just wish him well and stay out of its way.

Grab him around the neck and let's see. I'm not sure if he's gonna calm down much. You can tell, I am not squeezing him hard because it's having no problem growling.

What happens, if you grab a possum, you don't even have to grab him hard I'm barely holding him right here and he could slide out if he wanted to, but it somehow puts him in almost a state where you can ...
