Episode 1—Chef Andre Rush's Mission and Life Story Overcoming PTSD | Never Settle
@ChefRush has one mission: no fail. Growing up in the projects of Mississippi, he was taught by his family the value of community. To quote his father while picking vegetables, "We help each other, learn from each other, and grow from each other." From then on, this lesson was embedded into Chef's DNA and became vital to his self-identity. To find peace in distraction, he developed a love of cooking from his Mother and excelled in fitness and sports. Chef eventually joined the Army as an outlet to advance his life's dreams and serve the country he loves.
Returning from his three deployments, Chef Andre Rush found himself grappling with PTSD and the difficulties of readjusting to civilian life. In this trying period, he turned to his twin passions, fitness and cooking, as his anchors. He describes his cooking as a form of therapy, a way to cope with the turmoil within. His dedication to mastering these crafts became an obsession, a driving force shaping his life's mission: Veteran Support.
He began training to do 2,222 push-ups a day for the 22 vets that commit suicide daily. This insane feat and positive message caught the eye of the world, and people began to pay attention. During this time, his skills and confidence in the culinary arts grew, which led him to cook for four Presidential terms in the White House. He uses his Passions and platforms to spread awareness and showcase what is possible in life after the military.
