Adaptive Acoustic Origami
MSD MArch student Xuyou Yang developed her research-based thesis project proposing an adaptive system to control the acoustic response of existing architectural spaces by means of rigid origamis. The MSD Hansen Yuncken Studio 4 is taken as case study for the prototype development, and the reverberation time is considered as the performative design criterion. Through the study of origami patterns – carried out with physical models and digital simulations - Miura-ori is selected because of its effective folding properties, which also facilitate the motion automation.
