Šibenik | Croatia

Šibenik je najstariji samorodni hrvatski grad na Jadranu. Nakon dolaska Hrvata na obale Jadrana počinje se razvijati naselje podno Tvrđave svetog Mihovila koja se uzdiže na strmoj litici pri ušću rijeke Krke. Prvi se put spominje na Božić 1066. kada je kralj Petar Krešimir IV., na zboru visokih državnih i crkvenih dostojanstvenika izdao ispravu kojom daje kraljevsku slobodu i zaštitu benediktinskom samostanu svete Marije u Zadru.

Šibenik is the oldest native Croatian town on the Adriatic. After the arrival of Croats on the Adriatic coast begins to develop a village at the foot of the Fortress of St. Michael that rises on a steep cliff at the mouth of the river Krka. It is first mentioned on Christmas Day 1066, when King Peter Kresimir IV, at the assembly of high state and church dignitaries, issued a document granting royal freedom and protection to the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary in Zadar.
