🚀 Solved: Automating Expense Tracking on iOS (Without Breaking Privacy)

If you’ve ever built a fintech app for iOS, you know the struggle: Apple does not allow apps to read your SMS inbox. While this is great for privacy, it’s a hurdle for seamless expense tracking from mobile money receipts (like M-PESA).

In my latest project, FinSage, I found a way to bridge the gap using a mix of user-centered design and AI:
• The Workflow: Users simply long-press their transaction SMS and "Share" it directly to FinSage.
• The Intelligence: I’m using Foundation Models (LLMs) to handle the "AI Extract" feature. Instead of brittle Regex patterns that break when a carrier changes a comma, the AI instantly identifies the Amount, Recipient, and Category from raw text.
• The Result: A 2-second workflow that keeps the user in control of their data while providing 100% automated logging.
