Why Israel Continues to Strike Lebanon—Pakistan's Ceasefire Claim Rejected
The recent diplomatic ceasefire negotiated between the United States and Iran has brought a temporary halt to their direct regional confrontation, but it has not silenced the guns in Lebanon. Israel has explicitly rejected applying this broader truce to its northern border, arguing that the localized threat posed by Hezbollah is an entirely separate security crisis. For the Israeli government, the primary objective remains the safe return of tens of thousands of evacuated citizens to northern Israel. They firmly believe this is impossible as long as Hezbollah maintains its entrenched military infrastructure just across the border. While mediators hoped the agreement would create a comprehensive regional pause, Israel insists on a physical buffer zone and demands Hezbollah withdraw north of the Litani River. Consequently, Israeli military strikes continue across Lebanon as they attempt to dismantle this threat by force, leaving the Lebanese front completely detached from the international ceasefire.
